Darius is the leader of the mercenary company Josias and Damon decide to join after Navaris exiles Josias from Raudona. Being a mercenary, he is in part motivated by money, but he has a sense of the greater good and chooses his battles based on what he believes to be right, even if these decisions are not always the most logical choices in terms of profit or safety. Although his fellow mercenaries sometimes disagree with him, they respect his as a person enough to respect his ideals, and of course, he is in charge of their paychecks. Darius's desire to be a mercenary with integrity is what motivates him to follow Josias's lead when Josias reveals his true identity and intentions to overthrow Navaris. Because Darius commands respect from his employees, most of them are willing to follow him into Josias's service.
